Every public Energy & Decarbonization project in California pulls in a stack of firms — a general contractor to run it, specialty trade and engineering firms to execute the technical work, and architects or consulting engineers to design it. The Activity Index maps who shows up most across each of those layers.

Within a layer, the most active firm is set to 100 and everyone else is indexed to it, so you can read competitive position at a glance — without anyone claiming to know a firm's literal market share. The true share of tracked activity sits beside every ranking, so the math stays visible.

Below floor

Mechanical. only 1 firm on active projects — below the floor to chart honestly. Thin layers are suppressed rather than charted — the density gate that keeps a leaf from shipping thin content. At a busier month or wider grain, a layer like this reaches the floor and renders.

Why the pipeline is deep right now

Public Energy & Decarbonization work in California moves on its own capital cycle — bond votes, agency budgets, and multi-year facility plans — which keeps the pipeline broad enough for multiple firms to stay active in most layers at once.

How to use this

See a market this clearly, and you can play it two ways.

1 · Read the competition

The layer you compete in tells you who you're actually up against — and the firms above you are the ones winning the work you want. The relative view is the point: it shows where a layer is locked up by one or two names, and where it's wide open and share is there to take.

2 · Work the network for an in

The parties you're not competing with — the architect, the construction manager, the owner's rep — are your way onto a project. Signal Relationship Intelligence maps the shortest path from someone you already know to the people deciding the work.

YouA firm you knowLive project

Pair either angle with the projects themselves — owner, stage, and timing — and outreach stops being a guess. That project-level detail, and the paths through your network, are what SymplSignal puts behind every firm on this page.

Methodology

Activity Index Within a layer, the firm on the most active projects is set to 100; every other firm is indexed to it. A relative index of current activity — deliberately not a literal market-share %.
True share Beside each firm is its share of tracked activity in the layer — the raw proportion, shown so the index is always checkable.
Involvement A firm's involvement is the distinct active projects it's currently tied to in the layer, weighted 1.5× for any it's recorded winning.
Current, not all-time We rank the live pipeline — projects funded, in design, or bidding but not yet completed. We don't publish an all-time ranking: Signal's history reaches back only to when it began tracking each market, so a cumulative count would understate long-established firms. Momentum comes from the monthly refresh.
Layers & coverage Roles are grouped: Mechanical/HVAC folds in MEP engineers, plumbing & commissioning; Design = architects + landscape/interior; Engineering = civil, structural & geotechnical. Public bodies (the buyers) and advisory / owner-side firms are excluded from the rankings.
Aggregate only Individual project ties stay inside SymplSignal. This page reports firm activity in aggregate across 7 counties of California , including the Bakersfield-Delano, Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, Oxnard-Thousand Oaks-Ventura, Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario, Santa Maria-Santa Barbara markets, as of July 2026.
Why an index, not a percentage. Signal tracks more activity in some places than others. An index anchored to the local leader is honest under that unevenness and stays ownable; the raw share is published alongside it for anyone who wants to check the math.

The firms are public. The projects behind them are not.

This index ranks firms by public involvement. The owner, stage, bid timing, and full firm roster on every project — before the bid board lights up — lives inside SymplSignal.
